When we encounter a problem and we get stuck, it sometimes can be helpful to take a deep breath and then approach the issue from a completely new, and different, angle. To come from the opposite angle or try something entirely new. To “flip the script” and try to see the issue from a new perspective. We can all remember a time when this worked in our lives. I believe we should take this same approach when it comes to business. Yet sometimes when we are in the business mode, we limit our creative thinking. We don’t give ourselves the liberty to flip the script or imagine any other alternatives. This is where brand comes in.
Brand liberates our business and our thinking by enabling us to think outside of our current business model. Even beyond our industry. It’s easy to stay within our silos in our business and industry because we are caught up in the day-to-day. This can be quite debilitating as we become more blind to the activities going on around us. This blindness suffocates our perspective.
Power of Perspective
The true source of entrepreneurialism and creative thinking comes from perspective. From the exposure and experiences of other sources as our minds gain insight to expand our perspective. Limiting this perspective to just our little world cuts us off from these great fountains of inspiration and creativity. The majority of successful businesses had some spark of brilliance by expanding their perspectives. You can do this by observing other industries or business models.
For example, you can see where subscription models have entered odd industries. You will notice how products are inspired by the merging of concepts. These creative solutions that have created empires and entire industries have literally changed the world. Simply because they were willing to look beyond their immediate business or industry. For example, how Casper and Purple have changed how we shop and receive mattresses. Or how Warby Parker revolutionized how you buy glasses. Or the endless amount of subscriptions now available to the public, from Netflix to lawyers and toothbrushes to wine.
This perspective naturally creates brand and brand naturally creates perspective. This is because brand allows a business (and yourself) to not care about what others are doing in their space. To have the freedom to look at other industries and businesses and see how a brand could help absorb or craft certain attributes into their existing business model. This change in perspective allows a differentiation factor for the business to arise which will give it an edge in the market. Bingo.
Ultimately, the ability to zig when others zag or to flip the script comes from the gaining of perspective. Become inspired in a way that brings a brilliant new take on perhaps a very antiquated industry. To even just say or present something differently. To sell differently or provide a better result. Brand is your free ticket to look beyond your silo and imagine the great possibilities. To adapt your business and mindset to be more effective. You may even change the world too.
Don’t be afraid to flip the script. To approach your business problems from a new perspective. A chance to view the issue differently. Look around and become inspired by the successful creativity of others. You can zig when others zag. You can adapt your perspective. Your brand can flip the script.
